The Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission of Somalia has announced that it has accepted the decision of the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Somalia regarding the elections held in Galmudug state.
In a statement, the Commission said that the decision of the Supreme Court, dated 24 August 2026, concerns the dispute arising from the disputed elections held in Galmudug.
The Commission said that it based its decision on the constitutional role of the Supreme Court, the rule of law and the principle that electoral disputes should be resolved through a judicial process in accordance with the law.
According to the Commission, Article 73 of the National Electoral Law gives the Supreme Court the authority to hear, decide and resolve election-related disputes.
“Based on this, the Electoral Commission has formally accepted the decision of the Supreme Court of Somalia regarding the elections held in Galmudug,” the statement said.
The commission also said it would issue an official date for the Galmudug repeat election, although the document did not specify the exact date for the election.
This decision comes at a time when the dispute over the Galmudug election has entered a sensitive legal and political stage, with eyes on the next steps of the Electoral Commission and the Galmudug administration.
