Puntland has fully taken over the PSF headquarters and command in Bosaso, a day after it also took over the PSF headquarters in Galkayo.

A press release issued by the Puntland Defense Forces said that the Bosaso headquarters is now fully under government control, and its security has been assured.

Puntland accused the groups there of being armed militias illegally posing as security forces, formerly known as the PSF.

The Puntland administration said the takeover of the Bosaso headquarters follows a security operation that took place in Galkayo on Wednesday, which it said targeted armed groups that posed a threat to the security, stability and order of Puntland.

The takeover of the PSF facilities ends the existence of the force in Puntland, following several clashes between PSF forces and those of President Deni’s administration since 2021.

Previous attempts to disband the forces or bring them under the control of Puntland security agencies have failed, but recent operations have led to Puntland taking over the bases where they were located.

President Said Abdullahi Deni on Wednesday ordered officers and troops under the command of the Federal Government of Somalia in bases inside Puntland to immediately transfer their weapons and facilities to the Puntland administration.
