The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre, has issued an urgent order to provide immediate relief to people affected by drought in areas of the Awdal region, especially in the districts of Zeylac, Lughaya and the villages under its jurisdiction.

The statement came after he chaired a weekly meeting of the Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia to analyze the dire situation in these areas.

A report from the Ministry of Interior and the National Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA) revealed the extent of the impact of the drought, which has affected both people and animals.

“It is a national duty to urgently provide relief to our brothers and sisters in need. I am directing all relevant government agencies to respond quickly to this humanitarian situation,” said Prime Minister Hamsa.

The Cabinet also called on the Somali people and international organizations to participate in the relief efforts being provided to the people affected by the drought, stating that both civil and international cooperation is necessary to address this difficult situation.

During the meeting, the Cabinet congratulated the Somali Minister of Finance, who won the Best Finance Minister in Africa award, which was commended for the country’s fiscal reform efforts.

The Cabinet also commended the achievements of the Ministry of Information in implementing the modern Media Satellite Teleport facility, which has enhanced the quality of National Broadcasting services.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet approved a memorandum of understanding with the Turkish government, which focuses on cooperation in the areas of employment, job creation, and skills development for Somali workers.
