The Civil Aviation Authority of Somalia speaks about the helicopter that crashed at Aden Adde Airport

The Director General of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority, Ahmed Macalin Hassan, has given details about a helicopter that crashed at Mogadishu airport this morning.

Ahmed Macalin Hassan, speaking to the national media, said that the helicopter that crashed at the airport belonged to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

The director added that the aircraft took off from Baledogle in the Lower Shabelle region and crashed in the Afasiyoni section of the Mogadishu airport.

Director Ahmed Macalin Hassan noted that there were 8 people on board the aircraft, whose condition could not yet be confirmed as rescue operations are underway to extinguish the fire that broke out in the aircraft that crashed there.

The director already noted that investigations have begun into the cause of the crash, which has not yet been determined.

The manager said that work at the airport is currently continuing as usual, but about 600 meters of the runway and the next one towards Afasioni have been closed, as debris from the plane’s wreckage has fallen there.
