The United Nations Security Council has extended the authorization of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) until December 31, 2024.

newsibside The Security Council, by a majority, approved resolution number 2748, allowing the member countries of the African Union to continue deploying 12,626 soldiers until the end of this year.

The resolution encouraged current and new donors to support ATMIS. The United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) manages the Trust Fund to support Somalia’s security forces, and plans to replace ATMIS, to enable Somalia to strengthen its fight against Al-Shabaab.

The Council asked the UN Secretary-General to continue logistical support for UNSOS, and decided to continue supporting the 20,900 soldiers of the Somali National Army, who are conducting joint or coordinated operations with the ATMIS operation, until On the 31st of December.
