Somalia’s envoy to the United Nations, Abukar Osman Baalle, has expressed serious concern about the illegal weapons recently imported from Ethiopia.

He said this is particularly alarming as Ethiopia is one of the countries where troops are stationed in Somalia, which is part of the African Union’s mission to stabilize Somalia.

Ambassador Baalle, who was giving a report to the United Nations Security Council, revealed that the Somali government has started an investigation related to this matter. He assured the council that the results of the investigation will be presented at the appropriate time.

The ambassador also called on Somalia’s neighboring countries to comply with the sanctions imposed on Al-Shabaab. He urged them to work with the Somali government to prevent illegal weapons from getting into the hands of the Al-Shabaab group and the tribes.

Ambassador Baalle confirmed that Somalia is committed to maintaining peaceful relations with neighboring countries.

He stressed that the Somali government is ready to take over the responsibility of the country’s security once the African Union ATMIS mission is completed.
