Turkish Petroleum, a company owned by the Turkish government, is set to send its seismic ship to Somalia in a few weeks, to begin exploration of three recently awarded blocks off the coast of Somalia.

The move is part of a broader agreement between Ankara and Mogadishu, in which the Turkish Navy will provide maritime defense services and training for two years – to ensure access to three maritime exploration sites.

On Saturday, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said that Turkey will send its Oruc Reis seismic vessel to Somalia in early October to obtain 3D seismic data for oil and gas fields.

These blocks have not been identified, but Bayraktar said each one sits on about 5,000 square kilometers, with two of them located 50 kilometers offshore and the other 100-km offshore. outside the beach.

He said that the water depth is about 3000 meters, adding that the future exploration wells are expected to be between 3000 and 4000 meters.

Bayraktar said the 3D survey will continue for months.

Support ships, including marines, will accompany the Oruc Reis ship during its voyage to Somalia.
