The Hobyo District Police Command said they have arrested the head of finance in Mudug region of the Al-Shabaab group.
The leader named Abbas Sheikhdoon was said to be in Jowle area of Mudug region, before he surrendered to the security agencies.
Hobyo Police Deputy Commander Nuriye Ise Hussein said, the surrender of this leader was facilitated by the efforts made by the residents of Eelhur who made contact with the leader and then they informed the Hobyo Police about his surrender.
In the past few days, Al-Shabaab members have been surrendering sporadically. The government of Somalia said it has imposed sanctions on al-Shabaab in the East and South of Mudug, which said that when the al-Shabaab could not endure the difficult life they faced, they had to surrender.
Earlier, major leaders of Al-Shabaab surrendered in Mudug region, including Nur Mohamed Abdullahi Maalin Guur, who was the top leader of Al-Shabaab in Mudug region.
