The president of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, said that Somaliland and Ethiopia are committed to turning the maritime understanding into an official agreement.
Bihi, who made a speech at the independence day commemoration on June 26, said that Somaliland and Ethiopia are both committed to implement the agreement and said that it will lead Somaliland to recognition.
He accused the President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, of dishonesty, saying that he is not opposed to entering into a maritime agreement, but he is opposed to Somaliland entering into it.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who also spoke at the event on June 26 in Mogadishu, said that he is not against Somaliland people entering into an agreement, but he is against giving land, saying that it has a future risk.
The agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia has created a diplomatic crisis in the region between the countries of Somalia and Ethiopia, as well as many regional organizations in the world have opposed the agreement.
