Somalia’s ambassador to the United Nations has accused Ethiopian troops of illegally entering the border of Somalia, which led to clashes with local security forces.

“Somalia confirms its commitment to respect the principles of the United Nations Charter and good neighborliness,” said Abukar Osman to the 15 members of the Security Council.

Somalia’s ambassador to the UN said that they expect Ethiopia to respect the good neighborliness of the two countries.

Abukar Baalle said that the Somali government has to postpone the withdrawal of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia from July to September.

At least 3,000 Ethiopian soldiers are in Somalia as part of the African Union’s ATMIS peacekeeping mission in the fight against Al Shabaab.

The presence of Ethiopian troops and ATMIS in general is expected to end on December 31 after 17 years of operation in the country.
