The former minister of foreign affairs of Somalia, who is a candidate for the chairman of the African Union, Fawsiyo Yusuf Haji Adam, unfortunately pointed out that her desire for the seat of the African Union is interpreted as cutting off Somaliland.
Fawsiyo Yusuf Haji Adam said that the seat is for Somalia’s name and existence. She said that the decisions are based on the order issued by the African Union Presidents’ Conference.
“Unfortunately, not many people understand this issue. Some of them accuse me of cutting Somaliland, others say that Somalia is working for Somaliland and against it,” said Fowsiyo Adam.
However, Fawsiya Member of Parliament Yusuf Haji Adan has announced that she will not give up her candidacy for the seat of the chairman of the African Union whose election will be held next year in 2025.
She said that the heads of the government and some regional governments asked her to withdraw from the race for the seat due to a request from the president of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, who explained the seat to the foreign minister of that country.
