The Vice President and Acting President of Puntland Ilyas Osman Lugatoor said that the amendment of the constitution will lead to the separation of the unity of Somalia.
President Ilyas Lugatoor said that if Somalia is divided, President Hassan Sheikh will be responsible for it alone.
The statement of the Puntland vice president came at a time when Puntland recently announced that it would act as an independent state, withdrawing its trust from the federal government.
A few days later, the Puntland administration began to send a delegation to Ethiopia, in order to negotiate with Ethiopia for close cooperation with the Puntland regional administration.
Also, Puntland opposed the decision of the federal government of Somalia, which was about closing the consulate of the Ethiopian government in the city of Garowe.
On the other hand, President Hassan Sheikh said that any concern should not be an excuse to seek help from a foreigner. He said that the government of Somalia is committed to implement the amendments made to the country’s constitution.
