The Ethiopian government has rejected accusations made by the Somali government that it obstructed the Somali president Hassan Sheikh when he wanted to attend the African Union meeting.
A press release issued by Ethiopia insisted that it welcomed President Hassan Sheikh and his delegation.
Ethiopia said that the president and his delegation refused to set up a special security group.
“The delegation of Somalia rejected the personnel assigned to their security, in addition, the delegation of Somalia tried to enter the AUC building with weapons which were closed by the AUC guards. Ethiopia is committed to having friendly relations with its neighbors,” said the Ethiopian statement.
In a long report released by the Somali government, it accused Ethiopia of violating diplomatic protocol. The Somali government has demanded an independent investigation into what happened during the Addis Ababa conference.
“Given that Ethiopia hosts the headquarters of the African Union, its leadership and government must treat all of Africa equally. Hosting the African Union is an honor and honor for Ethiopia; however, if its government fails to uphold this honor and responsibility, it may be necessary for the African Union to re-evaluate the location of its headquarters,” said Somalia.
