Protests against the federal government of Somalia took place today in Garbahaarrey and Doolow districts of Gedo region, as residents expressed anger over a recent attack on the home of General Mahad Abdirahman, known as General Shub.

Protesters chanted slogans condemning the government led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, demanding an independent investigation into the incident and who was behind it.

General Shub’s home was targeted by a drone strike. However, the federal government of Somalia denied that an airstrike had taken place.

The government said the blast was caused by explosives being prepared at the site, but this interpretation was challenged by some government critics and supporters of General Shub.

During the protest, some residents waved Turkish flags in protest of Ankara’s alleged role in the incident. Protesters and some local officials have demanded accountability and an independent investigation.

Other protests took place in Garbahaarrey, the administrative center of Gedo region, where some protesters burned Turkish flags and images of the country, expressing their anger over the Doolow incident.
