The KAAH Party has accused the Somaliland government of ordering party members to be blocked from entering the Cigaal International Airport as they were about to welcome the party’s chairman, Mahmoud Xashi Abdi, who landed at the airport this morning.
KAAH officials said that airport security forces refused to allow party members to enter, saying that if they were blocked from entering the airport again, they would enter by force.
The party also said that they would respond to the government’s action with action, without providing further details on what that action would be.
The Somaliland government has yet to officially respond to the KAAH Party’s allegations.
The dispute between KAAH and the government emerged after the two parties, who were previously members of the political alliance that led to the WADDANI Party’s victory in the 2024 elections, diverged in theory.
KAAH supported WADDANI in the 2024 elections, and the two parties formed a coalition government, with KAAH members appointed to ministerial positions.
However, relations between the two parties have recently deteriorated after KAAH opposed the government’s plan for a Somaliland embassy in Jerusalem, while the party has also criticized the government, especially in terms of public service delivery.
Today’s incident at Cigaal Airport comes at a time when the political conflict between the KAAH Party and the government is intensifying, with statements from both parties indicating a growing political divide.
