The Chairman of the Towfiq Political Party, Sheikh Ahmed Shakir, has welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court of Somalia to annul the results of the Galmudug State House of Representatives and Local Council elections.
Sheikh Ahmed Shakir, who held a press conference, called on his party supporters to welcome the decision of the Supreme Court, saying that it is a step that creates new hope for the Somali people.
He congratulated the party supporters, saying that their efforts have borne fruit, and that the Court has considered their complaints.
The Chairman also called on the Somali people to welcome the decision peacefully, warning against anything that could lead to chaos.
Sheikh Ahmed Shakir called on the armed forces and the federal government to protect security and the people, especially at a time when different segments of society are expressing their desire for one-person, one-vote elections.
He said that his party had been standing for free and fair elections based on electoral principles and procedures for eight months, describing the Supreme Court’s decision as a confirmation of their efforts.
The Supreme Court of Somalia has declared that the results of the concurrent elections for the House of Representatives and Local Councils in Galmudug state, which took place on 30 July 2026, were not in accordance with the country’s Constitution and Electoral Law.
