The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today delivered a multifaceted speech at the inauguration ceremony of the leaders of the Northeastern Somali regional state.
President Hassan Sheikh first congratulated and praised the new leaders of the Northeastern administration, especially praising their efforts in the direction of unity and solidarity of the Somali people.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud officially announced that starting today, the city of Las Anod, the capital of the Northeastern administration, will become the Capital of Somali Unity.
“From today, the city of Las Anod is recognized as the Capital of Somali Unity,” said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The President also spoke about the Somaliland soldiers captured in the fighting in Las Anod and its surroundings who are still being held in prisons in that city.
“It is not right that Somali boys should remain in prison for political reasons. The government will work to release young people imprisoned for twisted political reasons, which are not in line with the principles of justice and governance,” said President Hassan Sheikh.
The President also noted that justice is the most important pillar of governance, and there can be no development and stability if citizens are suppressed for their political views.
