The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today attended the inauguration ceremony of the President of the Northeastern State of Somalia, Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Ali, and the Vice President, Abdirashid Yusuf Jibriil.
The President described the event as a historic beginning to strengthen the unity of the country, and stated that the Northeastern State of Somalia is an administration built on reconciliation, dialogue and the will of the people, and is therefore a full member of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud affirmed that the Federal Government of Somalia fully supports peace efforts, including the release of prisoners, the opening of roads, the strengthening of trade and the brotherhood of the Somali community.
“The North East is a member state of the Federal Republic of Somalia, and it has all the rights of other states in the country. I call on the Hargeisa administration to respond to the desire for peace and brotherhood that they are ready to offer to their brothers in the North East. We are not inseparable people, and we have proven that we cannot be separated,” said President Hassan Sheikh.
Finally, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia called on government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international partners to fully cooperate with the Northeastern Regional Government, encouraging the diaspora and intellectuals to participate in the development of these areas.
