Delegations from the Federal Government of Somalia have arrived in Las Anod, the capital of the Northeastern region of Somalia, in advance of the Somali President’s visit to the city later this week.
The delegation, which arrived in Las Anod, consisting of members of parliament, ministers, including the Minister of Security of Somalia, Gen. Fartaag, and the Police Chief, Gen. Asad Diyano, was warmly welcomed there. Also, the President of the Northeastern Regional State, Abdikarin Firdhiye, who has been in Mogadishu for the past few days, returned to Las Anod today.
Security has been tightened considerably, with troops from the Federal Government stationed there today. The leaders who arrived today and those who will arrive in the coming days will attend the inauguration of President Firdhiye and Vice President Abwaan Abdirashid, who were elected on August 30, 2025.
The Federal Government of Somalia attaches great importance to its visit to Las Anod, where it has established a regional state, in order to strengthen the unity of the country.
President Hassan Sheikh has previously described Las Anod as the center of Somali unity, and his visit, his first to the city, is sending a clear message that Somalia cannot be divided.
