The Electoral Commission announced the names of the members of the local councils of the Banadir Region.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has officially announced the names of the members who won the local councils in the 16 districts of the Banadir region, following the elections held in Mogadishu on the 25th of last month.

According to the commission, the political party led by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, won the largest number of local council members, winning 177 members.

The political party Towfiq, led by Sheikh Saakir Ali Hassan, the former leader of Ahlu Sunna Waljamaa in the central regions, also won 49 members, while the Ramaas party came in third with 42 members.

The districts of Wartanabadda, Kaaraan, Yaaqshiid, Heliwaa, Dharkenley, Wadajir, Hodan, Dayniile and Howlwadaag each won 27 local council members, as they were among the A-districts.

Meanwhile, the districts of Boondheere, Shibis, Shangaani, Xamar-weyne, Waaberi, Xamar-jajab and Abdiaziz each produced 21 local council members, which were identified as B-districts, as previously announced by the committee.

In total, 390 local council members were announced, of which 291 are men, while 99 members are women.

The National Electoral Commission also said that in the coming days, members of local councils will elect chairmen, deputy chairmen, and district secretaries for each district.
