Some Somaliland MPs and politicians in Mogadishu have called on the Federal Government of Somalia to refrain from taking measures that could affect the economy, movement and security of the people living in Somaliland.

In a joint statement issued today, they said that such measures would not benefit national unity, but would only worsen the already fragile situation.

“The Federal Government of Somalia should refrain from taking measures that could harm the economy, movement and security of the Somali people living in Somaliland, as forceful measures will never bring unity,” the statement said.

The politicians also called for an end to hate speech that could further divide the Somali people, calling for a peaceful resolution of disputes between Somaliland and the central government of Somalia.

They stressed that existing disputes should be resolved through peaceful negotiations, warning against the use of force or economic pressure.

In addition, politicians called on Somaliland to return to the negotiating table to find a lasting solution to the existing conflicts, stressing the importance of peace, stability, and national unity for the Somali people.
