Militants and an Al-Shabaab leader were killed in the Ali Heele area.

The Somali National Army, in collaboration with local residents, has killed a senior Al-Shabaab leader in a planned operation on the border of Middle Shabelle and Galgaduud regions.

The leader of the operation was identified as Ahmed Sheikh Omar, who previously served as the group’s commander in Runirgood area in Middle Shabelle region.

The commander of the 86th Unit of the 77th Brigade, Abdinur Qadaaye, confirmed to the national media that the leader was killed in the operation that took place yesterday afternoon in the Ali Heele area.

The commander also confirmed that the allied forces have fully taken control of the Ali Heele area, one of the areas that Al-Shabaab has been controlling for a long time.

“The Somali National Army, supported by local defenders, was able to eliminate the Khawarij leader in the Lower Shabelle and Galgaduud border areas, Ahmed Sheikh Omar, who was a man who caused a lot of trouble in the area, along with other members of his bodyguards,” said the Commander of the 86th Unit of the 77th Brigade, Abdinur Qadaaye.

Commander Qadaaye also said that such operations targeting Al-Shabaab leaders will continue until the Al-Shabaab group is completely eliminated.
