The Federal Government of Somalia has said it is ready to share the revenue generated from the electronic visa (e-Visa) system that it implemented in September 2025.
Somali State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Omar “Ali Balcad,” in an interview said that the government has responded to Somaliland’s complaints regarding the new system, agreeing to discuss the distribution of the revenue.
Ali Balcad said that the Ministry of Finance is ready to participate in the revenue sharing process, and will be open to any discussion on the proper way to manage the funds generated.
“The government is ready to discuss the revenue from the e-Visa, and the Ministry of Finance is also ready to share it,” said Ali Balcad.
The e-Visa system, which requires applicants to pay $64, is seen by the Federal Government as a way to unify the immigration process, with the government’s funds going to the national treasury.
Somaliland has previously opposed the implementation of this system, which has resulted in travelers having to pay twice – one in Mogadishu for electronic immigration, and another when they disembark at Somaliland airports.
