Former Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, held a dinner and informational meeting with a number of members of both houses of the Federal Parliament last night, sharing his views on the general situation of the country and the responsibilities facing the nation’s leaders.
At the meeting held in Mogadishu, Farmaajo said that the country has entered a very difficult period, and that there are societies that are still suffering from problems that seem to be similar to the 1992 famine, known as “Caga Barar”.
He pointed out that many people are in a very difficult living situation, which is getting worse day by day.
The former Somali President thanked the members of parliament for their visit, stressing the importance of preserving statehood, the unity of the people and the solidarity of the society.
He noted that all officials are obliged to uphold the constitution and agreed laws, which he described as the most important pillars of nationhood.
Farmaajo also criticized the move by the Somali federal government to seize lands it claims belong to the government.
He described the decision as inappropriate, calling on government leaders to stop issues that could create chaos and political misunderstanding.
On the issue of elections, the former President noted that the current government has only six months left, and there is a need to urgently clarify the format and timing of the elections.
He urged the relevant authorities to adhere to the deadlines, to avoid delays that could cause political uncertainty.
Last night’s meeting between Farmaajo and lawmakers from both houses is seen as coming at a time when there are intense political debates in the country regarding the transition period and the 2026 electoral process.
