The Ambassador of the Federal Government of Somalia to Tanzania, Ilyas Ali Hassan, recently denied that the East African Community Court in Arusha had reinstated Somali MPs representing Somalia in the East African Community Parliament.

Ambassador Ilyas Ali Hassan denied reports that a court ruling had been issued to reinstate the members of the East African Community Parliament appointed by the Federal Government of Somalia.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Ambassador Ilyas Ali Hassan said that the Arusha court today postponed the date of issuing a final decision on the case filed against the members of the Somali parliament representing Somalia in the East African Economic Cooperation (EAC) regional parliament.

“There is no truth to the news that the EACJ Court has decided to reinstate the recently elected members of the EALA Parliament. The court has only postponed the date of issuing a final decision on the case,” said the Somali Ambassador to Tanzania, Ilyas Ali Hassan.

The Arusha Court has previously suspended the swearing-in of Somali parliamentarians, after a group of Somali politicians filed a lawsuit against the election.

Ambassador Ilyas Ali Hassan’s statement comes as reports emerged earlier today that the court had ruled to reinstate Somali MPs who were to be members of the East African Community Parliament.
