Two Kenyan border guards were killed in a landmine blast by Al-Shabaab militants after their vehicle was hit by a mine on the Liboi-Kulan road in Garissa county, northeastern Kenya, police officials told the media.

The mine was planted on the road and detonated as the soldiers passed by, killing the two soldiers and destroying their vehicle.

Kenyan security forces rushed to the scene to provide security, as Al-Shabaab is still active in the border areas and is carrying out attacks on government forces, according to Kenyan media.

Photos from the scene show the soldiers’ vehicle badly damaged, and police forces were also seen searching the area near the explosion site.
