The Puntland Ministry of Finance has presented its 2026 budget, which shows a decline in international projects and the government’s overall investment plan.
The Director General of the Ministry of Finance, Ahmed Jama Jowle, said that the main increase this year came from domestic revenue, which increased by 16%. However, the budget data shows that international projects are decreasing by 32% compared to the previous year.
Puntland’s 2026 budget is estimated at $315,783,344, which is lower than the 2025 budget of $466,840,762. The overall budget decrease is about 32.3%.
According to the 2026 plan, international projects will decrease by 57%, compared to the 2025 allocation. This change is expected to impact social services including health, education, water and infrastructure, as international support projects play a key role in financing these services.
However, Puntland attributed the decrease in international projects to a general decline in international donations, which caused many organizations to suspend or reduce their projects in Puntland.
