The Independent National Electoral and Boundaries Commission (INEBC) has appealed to the international community to engage electoral stakeholders in expediting all stages of the electoral process.

The commission particularly focused on the need to prepare a formal financial budget, which it said could be implemented at all levels of the country’s elections. It said that financing elections is essential for the implementation of one-person, one-vote elections in the country.

The electoral commission also called on the Federal Government, state governments, political stakeholders and the international community to provide tangible financial support, so that the country’s elections are not delayed due to lack of resources and limited funding.

The commission also noted the importance of the international community’s full participation in the monitoring and financial support of the electoral process to ensure fairness and transparency.

However, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, whose term is only a few months away, is attempting to become the first government in the country in 60 years to hold local elections based on one person, one vote, even though Puntland, which is part of the Federal Government, has already held such elections.
