Puntland says it has killed the ISIS group responsible for laying mines, which were said to be behind the recent bombing that killed the Commander of the 2nd Brigade of the Puntland Dervishes, Gen. Qalyare.
An operation that took place yesterday in the Dhasan area of the Calmiskaad mountains killed 7 members of the group, and another was captured, according to a brief statement from Operation “Hillaac.”
Independent sources who spoke to HOL confirmed that Puntland lost one soldier in the operation, while three others were injured. The bodies of the slain members are expected to be presented today.
The spokesman for the operation, Gen. Mahmoud Faadhig, said that the group behind the attack was found 60 km from the location where Gen. Qalyare was bombed, indicating that a heavy battle took place and the ISIS group was destroyed.
He said that three other ISIS members escaped, and that the forces are searching for them. Gen. Faadhig added that laying mines was one of the tactics used by Puntland forces to fight ISIS.
