Puntland said the establishment of the Northeastern administration in Lascaanod had undermined the hopes of the Sool and Cayn people to establish their own administration in the SSC Khaatumo.
Puntland Vice President Ilyas Elmi Lugatoor said that Puntland supported the desire of the people of the two regions of Sool and Cayn to form a separate administration, but the inclusion of Sanaag region was unacceptable.
Ilyas Lugatoor added that the people of those regions had their fate decided by politicians seeking office from the Federal Government, who he said had no interest in the people of those regions.
“We believe that this new conference that was opened has destroyed and buried the old idea that was established in the SSC Khaatumo administration,” the Vice President said.
He also noted that the people of Sool and Sanaag are Puntland, and their position is clear, and there is no recognized administration currently in place.
Lugatoor’s statement comes at a time when the Federal Government of Somalia recently announced that the Sool and Sanaag regions have left the control of the previous claimant governments and are now official regional states.
