A meeting scheduled for today at Villa Somalia, between the Federal Government of Somalia and the Opposition Salvation Forum, has been postponed until Wednesday, August 13, after failing to reach an agreement on key points concerning the country’s political future.

Sources close to the talks said the delay was due to internal disagreements within the opposition, as well as issues that need to be resolved through further talks with Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The meeting was intended to unify the political positions of the parties in order to build a unified political solution and set the direction for the country’s upcoming elections.

Sources say that efforts are underway among the parties to resolve their differences before the new date for the meeting.

It is expected that both sides will discuss separately the challenges that faced today in moving the conference forward, as they have now agreed to meet on Wednesday for the 5th round, but the president’s withdrawal from amending Chapter 4 of the Constitution and an agreement on the type of elections to be held in Somalia in 2026 are still on the table.
