More information is emerging about the casualties caused by a landmine explosion that targeted a vehicle carrying Kenyan police officers.

At least seven police officers have been confirmed injured in a landmine explosion that targeted their vehicle while they were traveling on the road between Aresa and Khalalio, east of Mandera town.

A statement from the Kenya Police Command said the explosion specifically targeted the rear of the vehicle, causing the seven injuries.

The landmine attack was claimed by the Al-Shabaab group, which carries out bombings and direct attacks mostly in the northeastern region of Kenya.

Finally, in areas of Mandera region bordering Somalia, there have been frequent attacks by Al-Shabaab targeting various parts of the Kenyan military in recent times.
