A large number of Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) have been deployed near the border town of Ferefeer, which borders Ethiopia and Somalia, Ethiopian media reported.
The deployment comes as Ethiopian forces prepare for operations against Al-Shabaab in Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions.
According to local sources, Ethiopian troops are expected to be deployed in strategic locations to counter the increasing attacks by Al-Shabaab, which are targeting government and AUSSOM forces.
The move comes after Ethiopian warplanes recently carried out airstrikes in areas in Middle Shabelle region, the Somali Defense Minister confirmed.
The Somali government has allowed Ethiopia to take part in the new operation in Somalia, following disputes between the two countries over a maritime agreement Ethiopia signed with Somaliland.
