The Commander of the Banadir Regional Police, Mahdi Omar Mumin, aka Maalin Mahdi, has issued a stern warning to Somalis who spread news on social media that threatens security and encourages the Al-Shabaab group.

The Commander made this statement last night in the Hodan district of Mogadishu, where he participated in a communal iftar, and indicated that Mogadishu is currently at its best in terms of security.

“I say to the young boys who write on social media, you are part of the Khawarij. If you spread what does not exist, what that group does and what it does, if you say you are part of it, it is not possible for a boy in Xamar who is breaking his fast in a hotel to disturb the people living in the capital, he will not be harmed, and we will lock him in a dark room,” said the Chief of the General Police Department, Babaadir Macalin Mahdi.

The Chief also said that the Somali Police Force is ready to arrest anyone who violates security in Mogadishu.

“The person who gives money to the Khawarij and the person who spreads their news are the same, these people have gone through enough trouble, Xamar is at its most secure time, we do not accept anyone spreading messages on social media that make the Khawarij happy,” said the Chief of Police of the Banadir Region, Mahdi Omar Mumin, Macalin Mahdi.

The statement by the Commander of the Banadir Police General Division comes after the recent release of journalist Ali Adan Mumin from prison in Mogadishu, who was arrested on charges related to working to disrupt security and insulting government officials.
