Somali forces with the help of the local people have recently retaken control of Elbaraf and Mirtaqwa areas in the Middle Shabelle region.
The recapture of Albaraf area by the national forces and the locals came when Al-Shabaab was in control there for the past 24 hours.
The allied forces also retook control of Mirtaqwa area in the same Middle Shabelle region that the group took over earlier today.
The officers who led the joint forces told the national media that they have peacefully retaken the area, and the Al-Shabaab members who were there fled.
“The Khawarij took advantage of the way we went yesterday as a backup to the fighting that was going on in El Ali Ahmed and Ali Fuldheere. They followed us through Elbaraf. Today, when they heard that we were coming, they ran away from us and that’s all their strength,” said one of the army officers who recaptured Elbaraf.
However, Al-Shabaab launched an attack yesterday morning in the areas of El Ali Ahmed and Ali Foldhere, where the federal government said that more than 130 members of Al-Shabaab were killed.
