Minneapolis city officials canceled a trip to Somalia earlier this year days before the flight.
Their trip, which was about building a connection between the Somali community and the United States, was called off for security reasons.
Officials planning to travel to Somalia included Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Police Chief Brian O’Hara.
Just three days before they were scheduled to leave Somalia, their trip was cancelled.
When asked about why they are going to Somalia, they said that they want to work closely with the Somali community, and this trip would give them the opportunity to learn more about Somali culture, and meet the important leaders of Somalia.
Some of the Somalis living in the city of Minneapolis opposed the trip, and the trip caused division among the Somali community.
A US State Department official sent Frey’s office advising them not to travel to Somalia until further notice.
