The regional government of Puntland strongly protested yesterday’s decision by the Federal Government of Somalia which ordered the closure of the Ethiopian Consulate in Garowe.
In a press release at midnight last night from the Presidency of the Puntland administration, it was said that Puntland is not affected by the decision of the Federal Government of Somalia.
Puntland also said in the press release that it is dealing with neighboring governments, the international community and stakeholders in Somalia.
“The Government of Puntland and the Federal Government of Ethiopia have a long-standing relationship and deep cooperation, based on culture, economy, security and social mobility. The decision that came out in Mogadishu on April 4, 2024, was not One that was interested in the interests of the Somali nation and it was based on hostility, hatred and harassment against the people of Puntland, and to prevent the federalization of Somalia,” said the press release from the Puntland presidency.
This news from Puntland is following a resolution issued yesterday by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia which said that the Ethiopian consulates in Garowe and Hargeisa are to be closed, due to Ethiopia’s interference in the internal affairs of Somalia.
