The former president of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, has recently clarified his position on changing the country’s governance system, which he said could lead to major problems.
Farmajo said in a post on his Facebook page that moving away from the Parliamentary process in the country and suspending the office of the Prime Minister is a responsibility that is beyond the powers of the government agencies and will affect the destiny of the country.
“We are closely following the movements to change the form of government, the parliamentary system, the electoral system and the multi-party system. The changes in these provisions that are not carried out in the right way can cause the country to go backwards. instability and uncertainty,” said the former president of the country, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo.
Farmajo also said that the voice of the Puntland administration must be heard, and any decision made cannot be correct, if the National Consultation Forum is not part of Puntland.
“The Federal Parliament of Somalia has a national and historical duty to be careful about approving provisions that affect the existence of the government without going through the proper process, which can create social distrust and political confusion. We know the importance of “Hear the voice of the Puntland State Government, which is absent from the National Discussion Forum, to ensure their representation on matters of destiny, which is indispensable for the construction of a government in Somalia,” said Farmajo.
In conclusion, Farmajo said that the Somali people have the right to elect their leaders with their votes, in a free and fair and transparent manner, in accordance with the rules and laws of the country.
This statement by Farmajo comes at the same time as yesterday some of the former leaders of the country and other prominent politicians opposed the plan to change the system of government in Somalia.
