The African Union ATMIS forces, especially those from Burundi, have handed over their base in Raage Elle district in the Middle Shabelle region to the Somali army.
An event that took place inside the district station where the ATMIS troops were handing over the station was witnessed by officers from the ATMIS operation, the national security forces and the administration of the Raage celle district.
The Burundian troops who moved their base in Raagge celle district are said to be operating in other regions of Somalia.
“ATMIS troops in Burundi will now be deployed to other regions of Somalia to strengthen security,” ATMIS said in a statement.
This action was also indicated to be related to the suspension of the departure of the ATMIS troops for a period of three months which was requested by the Federal Government of Somalia last month, while ATMIS troops left some bases in the past months.
