The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, defended the agreement on the issues of the elections reached by the consultative council, saying that the agreement is important for the new direction of Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has denied that this agreement is to extend the time for some of the heads of state governments.
The President said that there is a need for unifying opinion so that the country can have unified elections at the same time, and also that the country has two parties competing for power.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud asked for support to make this agreement a reality. He said that if the country does not pass the stage it is in now, the current and future leaders will not have time to do anything for the country.
“A government that can keep the specified time, we are big. I am missing the sixty until now. What is the new wisdom that is coming to us… The truth is that we don’t trust each other,” said the president.
The agreement on the organization of the elections, which is in front of the parliament, has not yet been successfully passed by the parliament. And he met with different views.
Also, President Hassan Sheikh, who met with politicians and former leaders, did not succeed in gaining widespread support for the agreement.
