The African Union supported the request submitted by the Somali government to the United Nations Security Council, which was to suspend the withdrawal of ATMIS troops for a period of three months.
In a press release issued by the Security and Peace Council of the African Union, he said that he strongly supports the request to suspend the reduction of 3,000 soldiers in ATMIS uniforms.
It is not known whether the request of the African Union will be considered, as it is known that the UN Security Council has delayed the departure of 3000 soldiers from the Somalia peacekeeping operation ATMIS for one month.
The African Union Council also welcomed the commitment of the countries that have troops in Kenya, Ethiopia, Burundi, Djibouti, and Uganda to work with Somalia and other friends, to get the financial support needed during the transition period.
The African Union and other members of the international community are expected to provide the necessary financial support to fund the ATMIS mission, according to Abdirisaaq Aden, executive director of the Farsight Africa Research and Policy Center, which is headquartered in Mogadishu.
The second phase of the reduction of African Union forces was aimed at removing 3,000 peacekeeping soldiers from Somalia, while the operation has already removed more than 2,000 soldiers.
