A press release from the ATMIS military command has announced that the Burundian and Ugandan forces, with the help of the Somali government forces and local residents, have jointly taken over the Ali Foldere area in the Middle Shabelle region.
In the forested area of Ali Foldhere area, there have been several days of fighting between the government forces, the local people and the Al-Shabaab group, which has caused death and injury to both sides.
The press release from the ATMIS Command stated that the members of Al-Shabaab who were in the forest area were killed and heavy losses were inflicted.
“The forests of Ali Fooldhere have become a strategic place in recent years where terrorists plan deadly attacks and hide weapons such as vehicles used for explosives,” said ATMIS commander Brigadier General Sam Okiding.
The representative of the African Union in Somalia and the head of the ATMIS mission of the African Union, Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef, congratulated the combined forces who succeeded in the attack that ended the operation in the forests of Ali Fooldhere.
“I commend the brave efforts of our ATMIS troops, and those of the Somali National Army in weakening Al-Shabaab. ATMIS is fully committed to the implementation of the Somali Transition Plan which will end with the transfer of security responsibility to the Somali security forces,” said Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef.
This news from the ATMIS command coincides with a war that has been going on for more than a week in the forest area of Ali Foldhere in the Middle Shabelle region, where the federal government forces and the local people are now in full control.
