The Minister of Defense of Somalia, Abdulkadir Mohamed Noor, together with his Ugandan counterpart, Vincent Bamulangak, has trained thousands of new soldiers in the country’s Armed Forces, who have been undergoing military training in Uganda for several months.
These new soldiers will be deployed to the front lines of the war against Al-Shabaab.
It is the second batch of XDS troops to graduate from the training camp in Uganda this year. About 3,000 other soldiers have already completed their basic military courses and have now taken over the responsibility of the capital Mogadishu.
This is part of the Somali government’s plan to increase the number of troops to take over security responsibility from ATMIS by the end of 2024.
Uganda is one of Somalia’s friendly countries that is taking part in the reconstruction of the country’s army, as it has provided military training to tens of thousands of soldiers, and has also contributed the largest number of ATMIS troops, which are helping the government.
