10.5 million dollars for drought and resilience aid, has been given to Somalia with the cooperation of the Qatar Development Fund, the United States Agency for International Development and the British Embassy in Mogadishu.

This tripartite partnership is intended to prevent famine in Somalia and deal with the effects of the drought that hit Somalia in 2021 and 2022.

About 6.6 million people in Somalia are severely food insecure as a result of drought and conflict-induced violence.

“This is important, but humanitarian aid alone cannot solve the problem in Somalia,” said Mike Nithavrianakis, the British Government’s envoy to Somalia.

More than three million people have been displaced in Somalia since January last year.

More than 500,000 children under the age of five are at risk of dying or facing severe malnutrition this year.
