There are more reports of the casualties that resulted from the heavy fighting that took place late yesterday between the government forces and the local residents on one side and those of the Al-Shabaab organization between Shabeelow and Wisil areas in the South of Mudug region.
The battle was reported to have caused a lot of casualties, which started after members of Al-Shabaab attacked a convoy with local officers and soldiers who went to a high ground to find a telephone line antenna and talk.
The parties used different types of weapons and there was a long-lasting war between them, while later government troops who were supporting the officials and the local forces also fought another war on the road, which led to an increase in the losses caused by the war.
Correspondents who asked not to be named told VOA that 30 of the soldiers, including officers and the local army, known as Mawisleyda, were injured in the battle.
According to preliminary reports, the members of the fighting were Colonel Alinasir Abdi Farah, who was a member of the army and the local government secretary of Galkayo district in Galmudug, Abdiqani Mohamud Ahmed, known as Afyare.
The Al-Shabaab group, which spoke about the war, claimed that they killed 58 of the government forces and local residents, but there is no independent news that confirms the group’s claim.
The latest reports coming from the southern areas of Mudug region say that this morning warplanes have targeted areas where the Shabaab group is hiding, but the damage caused by these attacks is not yet known.
