The Banadir regional court today sentenced 36 foreigners who were accused of illegally fishing off the coast of Somalia.

The men who were convicted today were from Iran and Pakistan, and were caught off the coast of Hobyo in Mudug region, while they were fishing in boats off the coast of Somalia.

The regional court, which sat three times to hear the case of the foreign men, finally sentenced them today to pay a fine of 11 thousand dollars and 30 thousand dollars in compensation for the fish they took from the coast of Somalia and brought to Oman. 29-11 2022, according to the Court.

The president of the Banadir regional court, Salah Ali Mohamud, said that the government of Somalia seized two boats and their fishing equipment that were driven by foreign men.

“Those who are not satisfied with this judgment are open to appeal according to the law. This judgment was reached today on 06-06-2023, wa billahi towfiq,” said the chairman of the Banadir Regional Court, Salah Ali Mohamud.

He also mentioned to Governor Salah that the convicts have another chance to appeal if they are not satisfied with the Court’s decision.

However, it is not known how easy it will be for the foreign men who have been sentenced to pay the money they have been sentenced to, and the regional court has also warned other foreigners who fish illegally in the sea of ​​Somalia that they will face severe punishment.
