Sagal Abdi-Wali, a Somali-born woman, could be running for the London seat of Holborn and St Pancras in a by-election, a seat previously held by former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Sagal came to Britain as a child in the early 1990s after her family fled Somalia’s civil war and famine, according to The Telegraph.
She has long been a supporter of the British Labour Party. She was first elected to Camden Borough Council in 2022, and is currently its leader.
Sagal is also a former Labour Party chairwoman for Holborn and St Pancras, the constituency Keir Starmer was MP for.
If the Labour Party chooses her as its candidate, Sagal could run for the seat, potentially facing Zack Polanski of the Green Party.
The Holborn and St Pancras constituency has long been a Labour Party stronghold, but the by-election is expected to be an interesting contest.
