A woman who recently gave birth at Hargeisa General Hospital was found dead inside the hospital after she collapsed, as security forces launched an investigation into the incident.

The woman, identified as Nimco Jama Yusuf, arrived at the hospital a week ago while pregnant and gave birth there, according to the Hargeisa General Hospital administration. The hospital administration said that the mother and her baby were in good condition when she was born, but later the baby suffered from respiratory failure, which led to her being put on oxygen and transferred to the maternal and newborn care unit.

According to the administration, the mother and her baby were there for a week, with some of her relatives staying with her. The administration also said that during her stay at the hospital, the mother did not file any complaints related to finances, poor health services or other special circumstances.

The administration said that the mother went missing last night, and security forces began searching for her. Her body was found inside the hospital this morning. The incident has raised concerns and questions about the mother’s medical and psychological condition while she was in the hospital, and an investigation is reportedly underway into the causes and circumstances surrounding her death, with her relatives saying that she did not die due to any complications at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Somaliland opposition party Kaah strongly condemned the incident, describing it as regrettable and indicative of negligence and irresponsibility in the health services.

The party also accused the hospital administration of making health services and treatment costs a problem for some patients, saying that the mother committed suicide due to poor service and the hospital’s inability to pay.

However, the opposition’s allegations and reports about the cause of the woman’s death have yet to be independently verified, while the Hargeisa General Hospital administration said that the mother did not file any such complaints during her stay in the hospital.

Security forces are expected to continue investigating the incident, to clarify the circumstances and reasons surrounding the mother’s death.
