The AUSSOM Commander inspected the town of Bariire in the Lower Shabelle region today.

The Commander of AUSSOM, Major General Sam Kavuma, visited the strategic town of Bariire, which was recently liberated from Al-Shabaab after a two-week military operation.

The Commander commended the efforts of AUSSOM (led by Uganda) and the Somali National Army (SNAF), describing the victory as “a major step towards peace and security in Somalia.”

Lt. Gen. Kavuma, accompanied by senior officers, underlined the importance of cooperation between AUSSOM and the Somali Federal Government Forces in defeating the Al-Shabaab threat.

The Commander of the Somali Land Forces, Lt. Gen. Khalid Abdullahi, thanked AUSSOM and international partners for their support for the operations led by the National Army, stressing the importance of further strengthening security cooperation.

Similarly, General Joseph Musoke Ssemwanga, the Commander of the Ugandan contingent of AUSSOM, reaffirmed AUSSOM’s commitment to implementing the Somali National Army’s overall security transition plan.

The town of Bariire, in Lower Shabelle region, was liberated last Friday after a major operation by AUSSOM, the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF), and the SNAF. The operation is considered strategic and could be key to securing other areas in the region.
