The Ministry of Interior of the Federal Government of Somalia has issued a press release explaining the importance of the civil registration and census service, using a modern method.

The ministry said in the press release that today, August 10, has been designated as the day for Africa to commemorate this day to recognize the pursuit of the rights of people living in remote areas who have not undergone the civil registration and census system.

August 10, 2018, was designated to be commemorated on this day, following the 32nd session of the African Union Executive Council as there are many people who are not registered in their governments due to a combination of circumstances.

“The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the importance of a functioning CRVS system, and to gain full support to strengthen national and regional efforts. In addition, this observance is a platform to unite government agencies, civil society, international organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure that CRVS resources are used efficiently,” said a press release issued by the Ministry of Interior.

The Ministry of Interior of Somalia also said in its statement that 19 districts in some of the country’s regional states have implemented a unified digital registration service.
